2019 Scholarship Golf Event

Event Returns with a new Partner to Raise Funds for Local Students

Teaming up with Beacons of Influence, a recently formed 501(c)(3) corporation, Doherty is renewing its focus on assisting local students with their technical education degrees.

Doherty | The Employment Experts and Beacons of Influence hosted the 2019 Doherty Scholarship Golf Classic on July 15th at the Owatonna Country Club. The event’s goal was to raise scholarship funds for students entering a community college or technical program and planning a career in a variety of industrial and technical fields. Assisting students with their education allows them to contribute their talents within our local community and close the skills gap for area employment opportunities in various technical fields. This year’s event raised a total of $20,000.

The event included an 18-hole tournament in a four-person scramble format. Approximately 60 golfers enjoyed a beautiful day on the Owatonna Country Club Golf Course. A social hour, dinner with scholarship awards program, and prize announcements followed the tournament. During the program, the following students received their Doherty Technical Scholarship awards of $5,000 per year for 2 consecutive years of technical education:

  • Austin Irlbeck | Red Rock Central High School – Lamberton, MN, attending Minnesota West Community & Technical College – Jackson, MN

“We are so excited to reignite this initiative with our new non-profit partner, Beacons of Influence,” said Billy Doherty of Doherty | The Employment Experts. “Providing assistance toward educational opportunities for local students who want careers in technical and industrial fields is a legacy our company wants to continue building.”

In addition, the following students received their Ghulam Mohammed Scholarships, $1,000 for 1 year of technical education. Funds for these scholarships were raised during a separate golf event, hosted by the Beacons of Influence on July 8th at the Owatonna Country Club.
