On the brisk morning of Saturday, September 16th, 2017, employees from sister companies Doherty Staffing and Dahl Consulting gathered at Upper Landing Park in St. Paul to participate in the second annual Walk for Water. Inspired by the burden that millions of women and children bear every day walking an average of 3.5 miles to collect water that’s not safe, the organization Water Mission started the Walk for Water to raise awareness for the global water crisis. This charity event is unique: it doesn’t only tell the story of the water crisis, it shows it. Participants are asked to carry an empty bucket for a distance of 1.5 miles and fill it with water from a pool that is unsafe to drink from. Walkers then carry their full buckets 1.5 miles back and dump them into a water treatment system, demonstrating the lengths people around the world must go to acquire potable water.
Doherty and DAHL are deeply supportive of the Water Mission organization, and committed to being key corporate sponsors for the event over the weekend. The Water Mission cause is especially close to Tim and Valerie Doherty’s hearts, and they brought their entire family along for the second year in a row. In fact, three generations of the Doherty family were in attendance on Saturday, and they were recognized during the kickoff for bringing the largest number of participants from one family.
In total, Saturday’s walk raised over $112,000, which will be used to deliver safe water to people in developing countries and disaster areas.
