Three Tips to Keep You Motivated Throughout the Workday

No matter how much you love your job, sometimes there are days when you just can’t seem to get your work completed. Whether it’s a beautiful day, you have a lot on your mind, or you just aren’t feeling well, it happens to the best of us. The difference between an average employee and a great one is how you perform when you are not driven to getting work finished.

We know that every now and then you need some downtime, but for the rest of those uninspiring days, here are three tips to keep you motivated:

Get comfortable |  Do you enjoy your workspace? It’s easy to get distracted by a coworker, the break room or any other excuse if you don’t have a space to work that makes you feel comfortable. Now, don’t get so cozy that you want to fall asleep – that’d be counterproductive. But do decorate your space with pictures, knickknacks, etc., anything to put you in a better mood when you sit down.

Start out on the right foot |  OK, we know it’s easier said than done. But if you begin your morning with a positive mindset, you are more likely to carry that attitude into the office. Working sans caffeine makes you downright unbearable? Take an extra five minutes for yourself and enjoy your morning joe. Can’t jump right into your to-do list when you sit down at your desk? Start with the easy tasks. Check and respond to any emails, faxes or calls first before tackling a bigger task.

Leave your worries at the door |  Again, easier said than done. To help complete your work during your normal business hours, make sure to set obtainable goals that you can reach before heading home. If you tell yourself that you can’t do this work from home, you will be more motivated to complete your task before you head out the front door.
