Minneapolis, MN—April 12, 2013
Doherty Employment Group contributed a chapter on the skills gap in Minnesota to The State of Manufacturing® 2013, a book published annually on manufacturing trends in Minnesota. Doherty is a sponsor of the book, which presents the polling results and analysis of the annual The State of Manufacturing® survey, conducted on 400 Minnesota manufacturing executives by Public Opinion Strategies, as well as information gathered from 19 focus group meetings across the state.
Half of Minnesota manufacturers have no confidence in Washington
The results provide insight into the mood of Minnesota manufacturers. For example, in this year’s survey nearly half (48%) of the surveyed group indicated that they have no confidence that U.S. legislators can reach a budget agreement and take action. Healthcare costs and the budget and tax issues in Washington are of equal concern in the minds of the manufacturing executives.
Addressing the Minnesota Skills Gap
The State of Manufacturing® 2013 polling, analysis, and publishing was sponsored by Enterprise Minnesota and partners, including Doherty Employment Group. In addition to extensive reporting, cross tabulations, and analysis of the survey and focus group results, the book will feature several articles on manufacturing-related issues from sponsors.
Doherty’s contribution is, “Addressing the Minnesota Skills Gap: 9 Causes and 7 Actionable Solutions,” which looks into the causes and factors contributing to a shortage of skilled workers in metropolitan and outstate Minnesota, and offers concrete steps manufacturers can take to expand the talent pools available to their companies and help their communities take advantage of production growth and the jobs it brings.
